Dr. Manny Sethi, a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, announced in a statement Thursday that his campaign brought in $839,000 this quarter.
The latest tally brings his total to over $2 million cash on hand, the campaign said. This amount includes donations from nearly 3,000 donors, with an average donation of $114.
Dr. Sethi also loaned his campaign $500,000.
That is in addition to Sethi loaning his campaign $1 million last quarter, a spokesman told The Tennessee Star, bringing the total he has loaned to his campaign to $1.5 million
“Tennesseans want a Conservative Outside, and our strong fundraising numbers prove that,” he said in his statement. “Our grassroots campaign is resonating in every Grand Division of our state. We’re going to keep working hard.”
“Two million dollars in the bank, coupled with leadership in all of the state’s 95 counties, is fantastic for a first-time candidate. We have momentum and we will have the money needed to win,” said Sethi Campaign Chairman Chris Devaney. “It’s Manny vs. The Machine, and Tennesseans get that.”
Last week, Sethi’s campaign announced its grassroots leaders in all 95 counties, The Star reported. Sethi in June announced his bid to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), The Star reported.
Sethi has moved to show his conservative credentials. Last month, he issued a statement of support for President Donald Trump as House Democrats began their impeachment inquiry.
“I can’t believe what I just heard from Speaker Pelosi,” Sethi said in a statement. “The left continues to push for division instead of unity. These impeachment inquiries are nothing more than partisan theatrics. I support President Trump fully and urge Democrats to end this charade.”
Sethi is an orthopedic trauma surgeon and the founder and president of Healthy Tennessee, a nonprofit organization designed to promote preventative health care across the state. The organization has cared for thousands of patients in almost every county in Tennessee. He stepped down from leadership in the organization in early September to focus on his Senate run.
